CHRIS MCGOWAN

~ Nature and wildlife photographer, born and raised in the great state of Montana. Chris was introduced to nature and wildlife at a young age through hunting, fishing and camping with family. This introduction to the outdoors is what sparked the interest and later fueled the desire to capture unique and fascinating moments of Montana and the West. The West was tamed long ago on the basis of exploration and adventure. Today the West may be tame but our ancestors left behind the desire to travel, explore and view the wonders of nature with our own eyes.

Chris’s work has been featured on covers and within the pages of many award winning publications. He has been truly honored to view his images in publications that promote adventure, nature and wildlife conservation. These publications include The Overland Journal, Montana OutdoorsMontana MagazineRovers Magazine, and many more local and national publications. Chris’s work is also on display at The Bears Den Gallery in Helena, MT. You can view more of his work at ChrisMcGowanPhotography.com

Over the years Chris has also developed a love for feeding the desire’s of others through teaching photography. He teaches Beginning and Intermediate Digital Photography through the University of Montana, Helena. He also leads field workshops, guiding students to some of Montana’s spectacular State Parks, National Parks and Wilderness areas.

Chris’s proudest accomplishment is his family. He is very thankful for his wife Zoe and daughters Keslie and Clancy, who are his biggest fans. They are the best at pumping up Chris’s confidence with quotes like... “that is the most beautiful picture I have ever seen” They reside in Helena, MT.

A little of what goes through my mind when chasing light…

~ Light illuminates and shadows define.

~ Shadows are the soul of images.
